How to Store, Steam and Fry Frozen Momos: A Guide for Kitchens

By Momorita · Updated 15 Oct 2026

Storage temperature, steaming time, frying method and serving tips for frozen momos, plus how to handle damaged stock and calculate your minimum order, from Momorita.

Frozen momos taste as good as fresh only if they are stored and cooked correctly. Follow these steps in any café, restaurant or cart kitchen.

Storage

  • Store at -18°C in a deep freezer only.
  • Never store them at room temperature or in a regular fridge.
  • Shelf life is up to 3 months when stored at -18°C.

Steaming

  1. Heat the water first. The minimum steaming time is 5–8 minutes after the water is hot; the exact time depends on your steamer.
  2. Steam straight from the freezer and don't let the momos reach room temperature.
  3. Use a non-stick silicone momo net (jali) with a little oil to stop them sticking or breaking.
  4. Avoid over-steaming, which spoils the texture.

Frying

Steam for 4–6 minutes first, then fry. This gives a crunchy outer layer.

Serving

Serve with Momorita spicy chutney and mayo. Simple, traditional momos also allow lots of menu variations, such as cheese toppings, fried and combo plates.

Handling orders and stock

  • Damaged momos: report any damage within 4 hours of receiving your order. Damage reported later is not covered.
  • Unsellable stock: it can be reported 30 days before expiry, with transport charges covered by the distributor. The return value should not be less than half of the purchase amount.
  • Minimum order by location: MOQ = total transport charges ÷ 30. For example, a ₹200 transport charge gives an MOQ of about 6–7.
